Who's Jacob Schweppe?

When Jacob Schweppe perfected the bottling of carbonated water in 1783, little did he know his name would become synonymous with refreshment and style.
Jacob Schweppe can be considered as the father of the modern carbonated soft drinks industry: he was the first to produce carbonated water on a commercial scale.
Originally just producing soda waters and seltzers, the range of flavoured drinks soon expanded, most notably in the 1870s when Schweppes Tonic Water was added to the range. This famous drink, flavoured with quinine, dates from the early days of the British Empire and is the perfect accompaniment to gin or superbly refreshing when served straight over ice with a slice of lemon.
In the 1800's Schweppes used bottles with rounded ends, called 'egg sodas', with wire-bound corks that, by lying horizontal, stayed continuously damp so that the carbonation could not escape as easily. The famous egg-shaped bottle became the industry standard and in 2006, was reborn in the new Schweppes 300mL glass bottle range.
From the formation of the Schweppes company in 1783 until now, Schweppes continues to provide the more discerning drinker with the very best quality products. Today, Schweppes is available in over forty different flavours, providing delicious refreshment for Australians.
Whether it be the classic mixers, refreshing mineral waters, crisp lemonade, nostalgic traditional soft drink flavours or the newest exotic members of the family - Agrum', Ciata', Sueño and Grenáda - Schweppes is the brand that can offer a sophisticated beverage for any occasion.
